Hi there. I just started a mealworm farm in order to supplement my quail feed with additional protein. I started with 1500 purchased stock. I have been separating pupae from my main bin and moving them into another bin as they morph in to beetles. So far, so good. I have a question about feeding that I haven't been able to find an answer for yet: what size mealworms are typically used as "feed stock"?
, as I said in the title I ordered some mealworm from an online outlet (third time from the same outlet) whilst waiting for my colony to establish. This time when the delivery came I was hunting through the worms looking for beetles (there always seems to be a few) when I found some unexpected guests. The first one is the tiny beetle, it looks like a darkling but is it possible to get them this small. I found three of them. The more worrying thing is the other critter, the one that is a similar shape to woodmite but blacck and perhaps a little smaller but elongated. I wondered, does anyone know first is the mini beetle really a mini darkling. Second, what is the other critter and should it be worrying, like an infestation or anything to worry about. Thanks for any help or advice.
